Penukonda Railway Accident--Sri Sathya Sai Institutions render yeoman service:

The public are aware of the disastrous railway accident at Penukonda on 22nd May. The Sathya Sai seva Organisation swung into action immediately. The District President of the Organisation at Anantapur mobilized over 50 Seva Dal,which ultimately rose to 100 and rushed to the spot. The Seva Dal participated intensively in the rescue operations, including the handling of the corpses of the victims. These were placed with loving care in blankets for the further disposal by the authorities.Food and water were also brought and distributed to the passengers. Assistance in communicating with relatives was also promptly given.

The special training received by the Sai Seva Dal volunteers in Disaster Management stood them in good stead on this occasion also. A few years back, the Sai Organisation rendered similar service at the time of the railway disaster in Orissa.

Several of the injured patients were rushed to the Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences at Puttaparthi in its ambulance, where they received immediate specialized treatment.The Hon. Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Revenue Minister and other Ministers including the Union Railway Minister visited the patients in the Hospital and met the patients and reassured them.

The District Collector and other authorities have expressed their appreciation of the prompt service rendered by the Sai Seva Dal.
