The Super Speciality Hospital (Sri Sathya
Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences) was setup at Prasanthi
Gram (about 9 kms. from Prasanthi Nilayam) under the auspices
of the Sri Sathya Sai Medical Trust in the year 1991 to demonstrate
that medical care of the highest quality even in highly specialised
fields can be provided totally free of cost. The aim of the
Trust is to ensure that ailing persons receive the best treatment,
irrespective of their caste, creed, or social status.

extend the secondary health care and the Super-Speciality

Department
of Urology
Inaugurated by Dr Shankar Dayal Sharma, President of India
on 22nd November 1992.
The Urology department is well-equipped for
almost bloodless removal of enlarged prostate, early cancer
of the urinary bladder and uretric calculi.
Department
of Ophthalmology
Inaugurated by Bhagwan Sri Sathya Sai Baba
on 22nd November 1994. The objective is to offer a complete
spectrum of comprehensive and advanced diagnostic and treatment
facilities for all disorders of the eye. The department offers

Fundus Fluorescein Angiography
All kinds of procedures ranging from corneal
transplantation, cataract extraction, intraocular lens implantation,
cyclocropexy scleral buckling vitrectomy, vitrectomy with
associated procedures using SF6, C3F8, LPFC and Silicon oil,
Lid surgery and strabismus surgery, laser surgery including
Argon and Diode laser photocoagulation and Endophotocoagulation
are done routinely.
The department has a modern Operation Theatre
Complex with three Operation theatres and 6 bedded ICU. It
has 30-bedded ward and an up to date Laser unit. All the areas
are equipped with necessary patient-care equipment.
The Department is actively engaged in making
the surrounding areas as Cataract Free Zones.
The Blood Bank
The Blood Bank attached to the hospital provides
blood to all the patients undergoing surgery by taking blood
from voluntary donors. Each unit of blood is tested as required
by law. Most of the donors are devotees of Bhagawan Sri Sathya
Sai Baba coming from all parts of India and abroad.
Post Doctoral
Examination
The National Board of Examinations (Ministry
of Health & Family Welfare), New Delhi approved accreditation
of Superspecialities in Cardiology, Cardiothoracic Surgery,
Urology and anaesthesia for imparting training for two years
for the post doctoral examination equivalent to DM and MCh
conducted by them twice every year. They also approved accreditation
of Ophthalmology (Broad speciality) from July, 1997 for imparting
training for 3 years for the post graduate examination equivalent
to M.S (Ophthalmology) conducted by the Board twice every
year.
The best of equipment available in the world
has been acquired through a well coordinated international
effort to ensure that every department is provided with the
most modern tools to render the highest standard of medical
care that can match similar facilities anywhere else in the
world.
